About Lindsey Berisha

Dr. Lindsey Berisha is a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training and expertise in clinical health psychology. She provides evidence-based interventions for behavioral weight management, binge eating disorder, insomnia, depression, stress, and anxiety. She also works with individuals living with chronic health conditions such as chronic pain and diabetes, as well as those with co-occurring mental and physical health concerns. Additionally, she works with individuals both before and after weight loss surgery and has expertise in conducting psychological evaluations for individuals considering surgery.

Dr. Berisha primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in her work with clients. Both approaches help individuals to gain insight into the relationships among their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and to develop alternative strategies to reduce distress and break unhelpful patterns. She helps clients to examine and resolve ambivalence, and to enhance and maintain motivation for long-term change. Dr. Berisha believes that no matter the issue that brings one to therapy, a collaborative and trusting relationship between therapist and client is essential. She strives to create a therapeutic environment that is collaborative, warm, and tailored toward each individual client and their goals.

Prior to joining MBH, Dr. Berisha was the lead psychologist in the behavioral weight management and bariatric surgery programs at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Additionally, she has led trainings across the country to educate physicians and other medical providers about the psychological aspects of behavior change and to equip providers with skills to assist their patients in making lasting changes to manage their health.

Dr. Berisha received her PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and completed her internship and postdoctoral residency at VA Connecticut Healthcare System before being hired on as a staff psychologist. She also served as an Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry.
