About Ayse Ikizler
Dr. Ikizler tailors her integrative therapeutic approach to meet client’s specific needs, style, and worldview. She creates a safe, supportive, and collaborative space to help clients develop insights about themselves and develop skills to address life’s twists and turns. Dr. Ikizler leads with warmth and empathy and uses humor and gentle challenge, as appropriate. With attention to clients’ pasts, identities, and cultural backgrounds, Dr. Ikizler can help you uncover and nurture your authentic self to increase self-awareness, coping skills, and well-being.
Dr. Ikizler has extensive experience in a variety of settings that inform her clinical practice. She has worked with undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students who have had a wide variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety and depression. She also has experiences working with survivors of interpersonal violence and second-generation immigrants, especially those from Arab/Middle Eastern countries.
Dr. Ikizler received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and her M.A. General Psychology from the University of Tennessee--Knoxville. She is a tenured professor and researcher who has authored book chapters and peer-reviewed publications focused on identity development, stress, and the links between oppressive experiences and mental health outcomes. Dr. Ikizler is also the past president of the American Arab, Middle Eastern, and North African Psychological Association. Additionally, she has worked as a therapist at the following sites:
