Dr. Lisa Fuentes is a post-doctoral resident in psychology in Virginia and Maryland. Dr. Fuentes received her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health from the University of Denver. She received a second master’s and PhD in Counseling psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University. Additionally, she completed her predoctoral internship at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
Dr. Fuentes has worked within various treatment environments, such as community health clinics, family medicine, primary care, counseling centers, and a hematology-oncology division. Across these settings, she has provided treatment for PTSD, immigration trauma, Major Depression Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Relationship issues, Adjustment Disorders, and Diabetes management. Dr. Fuentes believes in meeting clients with compassion, humor, cultural humility and a genuine interest in their treatment goals. She uses an integrative approach, including, DBT, CBT, Gottmans’ Couples Therapy, Narrative, and multicultural and trauma-focused interventions.
Dr. Fuentes is bilingual and can provide therapeutic services in both English and Español. Her goal is to create a safe, supportive, therapeutic environment that fosters her clients’ well-being, creativity, healing, and growth. In general, she characterizes her approach as genuine, warm, and analytical. Dr. Fuentes recognizes the importance of identity, culture, and client experiences as being crucial to understanding a client’s life, struggles, and strengths. Her priority is not only to create a sanctuary where clients feel heard, validated, and accepted but also empowered and reclaim a sense of personal power.
