Dr. Lindsey Berisha is a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training and expertise in clinical health psychology. She provides evidence-based interventions for behavioral weight management, binge eating disorder, insomnia, depression, stress, and anxiety. She also works with individuals managing and coping with chronic health concerns such as chronic pain and diabetes. Additionally, she works with individuals both before and after weight loss surgery, and has expertise in conducting psychological evaluations for individuals considering surgery. Dr Berisha has been conducting psychological evaluations for bariatric surgery for the past 10 years, and was the lead psychologist in the weight loss surgery program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Dr. Berisha primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in her work with clients. Both approaches help individuals gain insight into the relationships among their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and develop alternative strategies to help improve distress and break unhelpful patterns. She helps clients to examine and resolve ambivalence, and to enhance and maintain motivation for long-term change.
Dr. Berisha also has experience working with military service members, veterans, and their family members, having previously worked at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and VA Connecticut Healthcare System. Additionally, she has led trainings across the country to educate physicians and other medical providers about the psychological aspects of behavior change and to equip providers with skills to assist their patients in making lasting changes to manage their health.
Dr. Berisha received her Ph.D from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and completed her internship and postdoctoral residency at VA Connecticut Healthcare System before being hired on as a staff psychologist. She also served as an Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. She continues to collaborate with colleagues on research studies, primarily focused on eating behaviors and weight.
