Finding an Eating Disorder Dietitian and Therapist Near You

Share

What do you want to be considering when looking for your eating disorder treatment dream team? There are a lot of things to consider!

The first thing you’ll want to make sure of when finding an eating disorder dietitian or therapist near you is to make sure the clinicians you choose have educational and professional training in the treatment of eating disorders. Eating disorders are complex, often affecting individuals’ psychological and physical well-being. A highly specialized eating disorder treatment provider will likely be well-networked and know of physicians you can work closely with to ensure that you’re in good physical health. They’ll also likely know of good higher level of care resources should you need more intensive treatment.

Our providers at Mind Body Health have often trained at higher levels of care, studied eating disorder treatment in graduate school, and have had years of experience training in an outpatient setting in helping those struggling with eating disorders. When looking for a treatment team, you’ll want to ensure that your dietitian and psychologist are well-versed in evidence-based treatment approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy for eating disorders.

Make sure that your treatment team members are regularly talking to one another to have coordination of care. Your psychologist or therapist should be regularly talking to your registered dietitian nutritionist and vice versa. Both providers should also regularly be in touch with your primary care physician and/or psychiatrist. One of the advantages of working with our Mind Body Health team is that we have dietitians and psychologists on staff who regularly collaborate and talk to one another regarding mutual clients they’re helping.

Ultimately what is of most importance is making sure that you have a strong therapeutic alliance with your provider. Research has shown time and time again that a strong alliance between provider and client leads to more positive outcomes in treatment. You should feel respected and cared for. A good provider will listen, empathize, validate, and help you move in the direction of living a meaningful life. Our dietitians and psychologists at Mind Body Health are here to do just that. We know eating disorder treatment is hard, and we’re here to support you through it every step of the way!
